Paint Glass using Acrylic Paint

Before I even began this project I went to my trusty friend Google and simple typed in "can you paint glass with acrylic paint", and I read many reviews most going back and fourth saying yes and many saying no. I thought I would just give it a go and see how it turns out.

I got married a year ago, we bought some vases from Michael's to use for our center pieces, and I do use a few of them around the house I have a couple that were just put away out of sight and I thought I could use them for something, so on my next step to my laundry room update I wanted to paint these with the color theme of my laundry room, so that's what I set out to do!

My huaband bought with these paints not to long ago for a project, I'm not sure where he got them from but the brand is Apple Barrel (I've never heard of it). He probably got them at Wal-Mart. The paints didn't have any names but I just used a sea foam green, and a light blue.

I just poured some of my paint into a bowl and used a basic foam sponge to apply the paint to the glass vase.

This is what the vase looked like after 2 coats and bit streaky still, but the third coat did the trick no streaks or anything, you really just have to be patient make sure you wait till each coat dries to do your next coat other wise if you paint over semi dry paint it cane start to come off and get clumpy in spots.

If this happens what's nice about acrylic paint is you can just wash it right off for the most part, so I don't recommend doing this on something you are always going to be washing, or make sure you put on a hardener or sealer as a top coat. I'm just using these as decoration so I just stuck with just painting it and so far no chips or problems!

The Laundry room still has a way to go, but I'm currently working on adding some more elements and sprucing it up, I should have another update on where I'm at on it soon!

Have you painted glass with acrylic paint? Did it come out good?

Desk/Office Space Redo

I have a space in our living room that has become my office-y area, while we don't have an extra room in our house this works! Since have been been really work hard on my blog and making quality posts, as well I will be starting an online course that I need in order to transfer to the School I want to finish out my degree, I decided I wanted to upgrade my little desk I had, I thought it was time!

Here is what I started with, apparently this was the only picture I had of the area, and one of my cats is right in the way but you get the idea not pretty at all!

I told my husband it was time I needed a new desk since that was the start to my new space! So the next day we set out for the Goodwill, Salvation Army etc.. I ended up finding the one I got at Salvation Army for $49, not to bad of a deal since the quality was amazing it was real wood no particle board or anything! The pictures of when I first got the desk are not the best I could not find good lighting!

The first thing I did was lightly sand down the entire thing, gave it a rub down with a damp cloth and then began to paint! To paint the entire thing it took about 2 days and I did about 3 coats!

I love this desk white it looks amazing, that little creature you see under there is my puppy Sasha making a mess with all the paper.

The next few pictures are when I was first getting it set up with some of the things I had for the desk!

I then went to the dollar store and picked up some organizing items and just made the overall area more pretty with a few DIY's you saw earlier on the blog! Sitting here just makes me happy everything is so bright, I have a few more ideas for the space that I may make in the future,, but for now I am satisfied!

I'm also working on some drawer storage containers since some that I picked up at the dollar store were to tall for the drawer, so I remembered Jen from IHeartOrganizing had a blog post about using boxed food items containers to make storage bins, so I'm working on filling this up with more, and I also want to line the drawer with some cute paper!

What fun projects have you been up to? Any desk decor ideas, send them my way I would love to check them out!

August Ipsy Bag

This is my second Ipsy Bag post since I started my blog, seriously this is my favorite beauty subscription service and this month I was beyond excited when I my bag, first off the bag was adorable and there was awesome samples this month, check out what I got below. If your interested you can join here! It's $10 a month and you get  4-5 deluxe beauty samples every month!

The first item you will see is the Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub, this is a brand I have been wanting to try for some time but it can be quite expensive, so I was happy to see this in my bag and a good size product as well. I have heard great things about this, it comes out a purple color, it smells pretty good and makes your skin feel very soft!

The next product was the Pacifica Alight Multi-Mineral BB Cream! I love BB Cream my favorite is the Maybelline BB Cream I have used it daily this Summer! It is said to match your skin tone which I felt did, but when I rubbed it in it gave absolutely no coverage and with my skin I feel like I did a little coverage!

I love getting sample mascaras, just because they go bad after 3 months and these I know I will go through, and with this service I hardly buy mascaras anymore because I usually get one in my bag every other month! This is the Pixie Lash Booster Mascara, and I thought it actually made my lashes fairly long and there was no clumping I thought it did a pretty good job!

This next product I wasn't really all that excited about just because I currently don't do this step in my everyday makeup routine, but maybe now that I have the product I may start! This is the Chella Dazzling Dark Brown Eye Brown Pencil, I have not used this yet but it looks like the pigmentation will be great!

Lastly I got The Noya Lip Balm in Cherry, This is an all natural lip balm that moisturizes and smooths! As soon as I opened this I could smell the Cherry scent and usually in products I don't really like cherry smell but when its a natural cherry smell I love it, I instantly put this on my lips and fell in love, it's so smooth!

Let me know if you subscribe, or if you already are! I love this because I get to try new products, and new brands I may never otherwise know about along with brands I have heard or!

Re-Using Candle Jars for Desk Storage

I don't know about you but I love Bath & Body Works Candle's they smell amazing and even more I love re-using the jars once the candle is done burning! The jars are amazing they are great quality and can be used so many ways!

I recently had one that had completely burned and would not light any longer, and in the midst of a desk re-do going on, I figured I could use this jar for storage somewhere on my new desk/office space!

As with any candle even though they are no longer able to burn you are still always left with the wicks glued to the bottom and a thin layer of wax left, this can look easy to get out, which it can be if done right!

To remove everything I boiled some water in a kettle and once it got pipping hot I poured it almost all the way full in the glass jar. After about an hour or so while they water is still a little hot I took a spoon and began to remove the wax up from the bottom, the wax and wicks should come right up!

It may take a few times with hot water and soap to completely remove all the wax residue left over, but just keep scrubbing until you have a squeaky clean glass jar! Also if you want you can remove the candle scent sticker!
You should have a nice clean jar that you can really use for anything, like I said I knew I wanted to use mine for desk organization, so here is how I decided to use mine!

I bought a few sticky note pads, and little notepads from the dollar store they were to cute to pass up, so I thought they would be great to store in the jar until I needed to them to jot something down, and well they just look cute. Also I used anything jar I had to hold some of my paint bottles!

I mean really these jars have endless possibilities, you can use them anywhere in your house to store just about anything small enough to fit!

Have you done any jar makeovers? Do you love Bath & Body Works candles as much as I do?

Quick and Pretty Notepad Makeover

I don't know about you, but I love using notepads, or any kind of notebook to jot things down make lists etc... You can buy them in a pretty design but even your basic notepad with a pretty design can be upwards of $3! While I was at the dollar store a week ago looking for cute simple decor and bins for my new desk area I came across just your simple writing tablet for $1.

Then this morning I was thinking back to when I covered my clipboard in scrapbook paper and thought I could do the same with the notebook to make it look pretty on my desk! So that's what I did, seriously this took me like 2 mins tops!

Below are the supplies you need, plus scissors and a pen or pencil which are not in the photo! You can use any size notepad you want as well the steps obviously work for any size notepad, or different styles of notebooks!
The first step I did was trace an outline of the size of the notepad, and then cut it to size!

I then just used my glue gun and outlined the paper with glue and a little in the center, or course you can use any adhesive you would like such as regular glue, glue stick, tape, mod podge anything really, I just think hot glue really holds it in place and doesn't take forever to dry and leaves no lumps in your project!
I then just made sure it was in place, and pressed firmly on all edges to ensure it doesn't come up in places.

Here is the finally look!
Looks great huh?!? Eh, not quite it's almost to plain still better than where I started but I thought it needed just that extra touch!

I used some letters I still had from previous scrapbook pages and thought this would be the perfect touch!

Much better don't you think, that little extra touch just made it that much cuter, I may have an obsession after making my first one, I have already made a few more, and now I need to go back to the dollar store and pick more up! How many notepads do I really need?!?

Have you scrapbook papered anything recently? After doing one can you stop?

Jewelry Organization

I don't know about you girls but when I am getting ready in the morning I like everything to be in the same general spot so I can reach for this easily, for me that spot in my closet, I keep a lot in there for the size, my clothes, makeup, jewelry etc.. you name it, it's in there!

Before this thought I actually had some of my jewelry in the bathroom, some on my nightstand, and others various places where I had left pieces, and I wonder why I never wore anything it's because I did not have it where I can see it when I'm getting ready! Like I said my getting ready place in my closet, everything is in there!

I have had this old frame forever that I believe I got at TJ Max a long time ago, it actually started out as a cork board, then at one point I took the cork board out and used it as a place to hang photos, and now I am using it for jewelry, I love versatile pieces!

I also picked up what the dollar store calls the multi-hanger, when I saw this for a dollar picked up several for various places around the house to hang things, it was only a dollar and it even came with the screws to hang it out!

Here is any over view of what it looks like looking into the closet! I don't have a fancy walk in closet, just a regular long closet where the doors open out, luckily we recently bought a new dresser from Ikea that holds on my husbands clothes so I got the whole closet!

The earring holder was very easy to make, like I said it use to be a cork board, then the cork started coming off from my cat scratching it, so I took it out and the frame was just to pretty to throw away, I recently decided to use it to store my earrings, all I did was take some jewelry wire and hot glued it to the back of board and it actually works great, I then hung the board up just with simple tacks! It hold a lot of earrings I have a ton of room for for pairs to hang!

Orginally I just hung my earrings on the wall with simple tacks, but when I saw this $1 wall hanger I thought it was perfect for my necklaces, it gives them space and I can clearly see what I have.

Finally to hold all my stud type earrings, I got this cute tray that came with homemade soaps from a friend for Christmas last year so I thought this would be perfect to hold my stud earrings and the few cocktail type rings I own!
I really like this organization because it's all right there in my getting ready area, I can just grab it and go!

Do you have any unique jewelry storage tips, send them my way I would love to check them out
